SAE Brothers Win All-Sports Trophy for Sixth Time in Seven Years!

The 2005-2006 intramural campaign was long, hard fought, and strenuous. But all that effort was worth it, as the brothers of NY Alpha brought home a shiny new first-place trophy, our sixth in seven years. The fall season began with a bang, as SAE capped off an undefeated outdoor soccer season with a thrilling ninth-man shootout victory in the final against Sigma Phi Epsilon. A stalwart group of experienced seniors led the team.

In nearly every sport, the loyal sons of Minerva were battling for a top spot. Sophomores Michael Schecter and Jonny Lieberman reached the semifinals in the tennis doubles tournament. The cross-country team of Rob Brink, Nate McClafferty, Jeff Adelson, and Max Lieberman placed second among fraternities. Our team also captured second place in the charity event Phi-Tug-of-War.

In the spring, the story was similar, and although there were no outright victories as in soccer, we performed well in ice hockey, floor hockey, bowling, inner-tube water polo, softball, ultimate Frisbee, and volleyball. By participating in nearly every event, SAE kept gaining momentum and points, eventually clinching first place over Sigma Pi and Psi Upsilon.

The 3-foot-tall all-sports trophy now sits in the library of Hillcrest, a commemoration to all the brothers's commitment, spirit, sportsmanship, and zeal on the sports field this past year. We have already begun this year's campaign and are confident that we will be able to bring home another trophy this year!

Baseball Goes After Ivy League Championship

Red looks to stretch last year's Gehrig Division title into a double

As the sun starts to peek through the clouds above sulky gray Ithaca, the baseball team embarks on the 2006 season with one goal in mind - to improve on last year's finish which saw the team place first in the Ivy League's Gehrig division. Although the team loses a vital part of last year's squad in pitchers Dan Gala '05, Tad Bardenwerper '05 and shortstop Matt Miller '05, a strong freshmen class along with a solid group of transfers will look to make an impact as they combine in the clubhouse with four returning All-Ivy selections in senior Rocky Collis, senior Seth Gordon, junior Jim Hyland, and sophomore Brian Kaufman on their quest for an Ivy title.
