Creating Chapters of Excellence is
a program offered by Cornell through the Office of Fraternity
and Sorority Affairs. The program is intended to foster a renaissance
of the Greek letter organizations in stronger partnership with
alumni leadership, while maintaining the integrity of a self-governed
system. The program emphasizes three areas: mentoring, cultural
and educational programming, and chapter facilities. Faculty,
staff, and alumni all play a role in the program, but the focus
is on enriching the Cornell experience for the participating chapters.

The SAE Alumni Board has voted to support our chapter's
continued participation in the Creating Chapters of Excellence Program
for the 2006-2007 academic year at the cost of $5,000. There is, however,
one specific condition to our continued participation.
We request that the CCE program provide for its member
chapters a formal Alcohol Awareness Training Program that emphasizes
the following themes at a minimum:
- A review of the laws and legal consequences of underage
drinking and serving alcohol to minors
- Guidance for responsible consumption of alcoholic beverages in a
social setting
- The dangers of binge drinking and how to avoid overconsumption of
alcohol
- Recognizing and responding to alcohol poisoning situations
Members of our board feel very strongly that the CCE program
take this training on as a core part of their programming and make participation
mandatory for all chapter members. Please let us know if you would like
to discuss further by telephone.
