"Project H" benefit for Haiti

Date: February 27, 2010
Details:

Dear NY Alpha Alumnus,

My name is Christopher DeVaughn, and I graduated from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration in 2008. I was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, where I served as pledge educator during my senior year. One of the principles I sought to impart to our new members was the importance of service and leadership. Currently, I work in real estate private equity with entrepreneur Bob Johnson’s RLJ Development LLC. While my professional experiences have been invaluable, so have the social and community outreach programs I’ve been involved in, including those undertaken every year by SAE actives at Cornell.

The tragic earthquake in Haiti affected hundreds of thousands and I felt compelled to create "Project H," a February 27 benefit at Washington's historic City Tavern Club for Oxfam America’s Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund.

Because of the philanthropic ideals I learned while at Hillcrest, I have recruited some of the active brothers currently at SAE to help me in this initiative. For this reason and the unprecedented events in Haiti, the NY Alpha Alumni Association has graciously agreed to assist me by allowing me to send this communication to our 1,000 plus members. I ask you to consider a tax deductible donation to Oxfam America to help us reach our goal of $20,000 to provide much-needed aid and support for Haiti’s population. All of the money we raise from SAE alumni and from the event and auction will go toward Oxfam America’s relief effort in Haiti. Oxfam America is currently providing clean water, sanitation supplies, and temporary shelter to the thousands of people whose lives have been ravaged by the worst earthquake to hit Haiti in 200 years. The organization hopes to help more than 100,000 people in the country. If you would like to view more information please visit www.oxfam.org.

Service and leadership are virtues that I and countless SAE True Gentlemen hold dear. Your generosity will help to ensure our success, immediately benefiting the people of Haiti in this time of crisis. Please make your check payable to Oxfam America, and send it to:

Christopher DeVaughn
2400 M St. #629

You will receive a gift acknowledgment directly from Oxfam, a 501C3 charitable organization.
Thank you for your consideration and we look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Christopher DeVaughn '08, christopher.devaughn@hotmail.com
